Test comment - how do I draw a line with TigerCad?

If I have two lines, a and b crossing a third line c, how do I erase that part of c between a and b?

1) Draw a new short line superimposed on one of the end segments you want to keep.
2) Crop the original line back - to make the other end segment you want to keep - using the 'Shorten or extend a line or arc' command.

Thanks, Pete. That will work. I didn't realize I could superimpose one line on another. I live in a tiny country town called Birdsville, in far western Queensland, Australia, by the way. It's amazing where computer programs get to isn't it? Particularly when they are FREE!!!!!

G'day. Good job it didn't come by sea!

Just started playing around with TC, is there a way to group objects? I drew a rectangle, but copy and delete only select a segment at a time. I come from an Autocad and Corel Draw perspective and have to change my mindset, but grouping objects seems basic to using anything to create symbols that stay symbols, if you know what I mean.
Good work, Thanks.

Hi Timothy,

I gave considerable thought to what you might call 'true' symbols (ie symbols that stay symbols - like AutoCad's) when I designed TigerCad. I wanted to include this feature - because it's clearly valuable, but I had to draw the line somewhere to make the project viable for just one person (with 3 kids!) (I.e. me) in just spare time. The added complexity to the internal design of the software wa s just too high a price to pay. I hope I've compensated by making cut and paste pretty rich - with features like copying stuff between drawings, and being able to paste things down in a row or around an arc, and dynamic scaling, rotation and mirroring (These were relatively 'inexpensive' additions - in development time terms.)

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Pete

I have just come across your program, and i think it is great.
I would like to ask-can i use any other cross hatch patterns, or possibly define my own?

Kind regards Mike

Hi Pete. Just started using your program and its great. I was just wondering if it was possible to add keyboard shortcuts(maybe even allow user to set),
Thanks.....good program

Hi Cliff, there's no gentle way to break this I'm afraid - no you can't add keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks for the comments though.

i created a rectangle and now I'm trying to select it. Where is the selection tool? And Where do I find to add feet? Trying to make a layout of the house.

Really enjoyed using this on our PC. Too bad it doesn't work on our Mac :( This is an awesome program and so easy to use. Thank you!

How do I set up drawings to scale (say 1:10) so that on an A4 page, when I draw a line to its correct size (say 2000mm) its actual length on the drawing is 200mm, but it is dimensioned as 2000mm? Is this possible?
Great programme,
Ron Barrow

Hi Pete

My first blog - ever - Can you tell me how I do scale drawings so that if I'm doing a 1/10th full size drawing, I draw a line 200mm long, but it is actually dimensioned as 2000mm? Or am I talking through my hat?

As I've said before, great programme!

re Edit X / Y co-ordinates
When drawing something one often wants the end point to be somewhere neat, say 100mm south of the origin (rather than 100.123 which is a close as you can conveniently manage with the mouse). Thus you give us the edit co-ordinates boxes.
What seems instinctive to me is to roughly position the endpoint using the mouse, then I would like to leave the mouse where it is and use a button to navigate to the X-coordinate box (tab seems suitable)

Suggestion number 2, I'm sure you would like to see photos of real thing developed with Tigercad.

Thanks Pete..

I don't have much experience using any CAD programs but this is very easy to use and I am more than happy with the end results..

I like it. I like it alot..

Hi Pete,
Is it possible to convert drawings in Adobe pdf to some form that can be imported into TigerCad, & have the cad functions work on it? I got pdf995 the other day & figured out how to convert & send drawings. Help me figure out how to get them back in

Sorry Mick, there isn't an import solution, only export.

I fully realise how valuable it would be - but it's just too darn hard. It's 100 times easier (i.e. quicker) to develop an export feature than an importer.
